JUDAH THE JETTA
April 15th. I was so looking forward to that day. A girlfriend and I had planned a trip into Anchorage to have brunch and do a little shopping. Almost a whole day of sharing about life, laughing, shopping… I mean, that’s a good day! It was so wonderful to break open our lives and share about pain and loss, overcoming and victory. My heart was so full as we headed home. She said she needed to make a stop home before taking me home. No big deal! We drove up to the driveway and went into the house. Then both her and her husband sat me down and said, “We want to give you our car…”
Wait. What?!
They told me how at two different specific times the Lord had talked to them separately about giving the car to us. So, instead of her driving me home, I’d be driving the car home myself. I sat in the front seat totally dumbfounded. As I began the ride home my heart was bursting with thanksgiving and song. That was a fun ride home. I wanted to surprise Jason with the car. So as I drove up, I called him to come outside and meet me. He comes out and I hop out the driver seat. He had a confused look on his face. I gave him the key to the car and just smiled. “No way!”
Shortly after calling our friends to say thank you, I told Jason, “Hey! We need to give something away! As an act of worship! Something that will cost us and be a little painful!” When he asked what I had in mind, I told him, he clutched his chest and said, “OW. Yeah, that’s a little painful. But I’m excited! Let’s do it!” So we wrote out a check, kept the name blank, and prayed who to give it to. The next day some other friends of ours started to tell us about this dream in their heart. Both Jason and I could feel the invitation of the Lord and knew that was where we were to seed our gift. A few days later, some other friends felt to give an amount. It was the amount we had given and THEN SOME. So then we gave again… and the Lord gave on top of that! So then, of course, this was getting so fun, so we gave again… and the Lord gave on top of that! Feels like a fun game. We’re still doing it. And He keeps giving back with surplus. It’s an ongoing lesson on how we can never out give God!! Never.
So now we have this little Jetta Volkswagon vehicle sitting in our driveway boasting of the goodness and provision of the Lord. We name our cars. We’re strange that way. My vans name is Queen Elizabeth and Jason’s truck is called “Gracie” (No, this isn’t a joke. In fact, his truck was given to him too. I should tell that story in a later blog). So Abe said, “We need to name our new car! I have a name! J U D A H! Let’s drive it all day for our family day!” Judah the Jetta. Perfect. Judah means PRAISE.
Actually, I should add that all three vehicles have been given to us. And if/when the Lord tells us to give them away, hallelujah!! Living with the Lord is fun. He provides, we pour out, He provides, we pour out…
